Something to Cheer You Up ❀

Wherever you are in this world, you should know that you deserve to smile no matter what. Leave every negative thing that ever happened to you behind and move on because there are precious things in life you haven't seen yet. Sometimes it's hard to find love, actually very hard, but once you do, note that "Love Never Fails", AND I utterly agree with that!

Lazy Sundays

It's the first week of April .. and .. I hope it won't get BORING!!! I've been thinking a lot lately about making a surprise party for my bestie, though I couldn't do it all solo. Her birthday is two weeks ahead and I haven't decided yet what to get her. I have couple of things in mind that could really amuse her .. can't tell ya! So, what is there to do on a Sunday? Bake a cake, do my chores, order from Johnny Rockets, or sleep?!

Let's all grab a cupcake and a cup of coffee , lay back and watch Gok's Fashion Fix.
I miss getting the frequent inappropriate giggles with my bestfriends. I tried to behave myself from being in such a childish manner .. but I can't help it.

Happy April Fool's Day!

March ramblings

Although it seems to be the last two days of March, I'm so glad my dad is back home. We have been bathed in sunshine these last few days which has also made me a bit happy due to this wonderful warm weather.
Here's a treat for you: Rose Water Glitter Cake!

Rose Water Infused Glitter Cake
Makes 1 9 inch cake

Ingredients:
cake:
2 cups all purpose flour
2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) good quality unsalted butter, softened
1 ¾ cups plus 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
4 eggs, at room temperature
1 ½ cups buttermilk
3 tablespoon rose water, divided (you can substitute this for an orange oil or any other
flavored oils of your choice)
approx. 1cup simple syrup
basic buttercream frosting:
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
7 ½ cups powdered sugar, sifted
1/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon milk
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
garnish:
1 cup fresh raspberries
lots of gold luster dust

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
3. In a stand mixer or with a hand mixer, cream together the butter and sugar for about 3 minutes.
4. With the motor running add the eggs one at a time, scraping down the sides of the bowl after each addition.
5. Add the dry mixture and milk to the butter mixture, alternating in thirds, until all of the dry ingredients and milk have been incorporated. Stir in 1 tablespoon of rose water.
6. Divide the batter between two greased and parchment lined 9 inch cake pans and bake for about 25 minutes or until the cakes are golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the center of each round.
7. While the cakes bake, make the frosting: In a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, whip the butter. With the motor running, add the powdered sugar, ½ cup at a time until all of the sugar has been incorporated. Add the milk and vanilla into the mixture and beat until smooth. Cover with plastic wrap and set aside.
8. Allow the cakes to cool completely, about 45 minutes. Remove cakes from the pans and place in the refrigerator for about an hour.
9. Once the cakes have chilled, slice each in half so there are a total of four cake layers.
10. In a small bowl stir the remaining rose water into the simple syrup.
11. To assemble: Place a single cake round onto a cake turner (or clean surface) and brush the top with some of the rose water syrup. Add a thin layer of frosting over the syrup and top with another layer of cake.
12. Repeat step 11 until all of the layers have been used. Coat the cake in a thin layer of frosting to create a crumb coat and allow the cake to chill for 30 minutes.
13. Decorate cake with the remaining frosting and begin to dust cake with gold luster dust. (I find the easiest way to completely coat the cake in luster dust is to dab some onto a pastry brush, pull the bristles back with my fingers and flick it towards the cake)
14. Roll raspberries in luster dust until well coated and arrange on top of the cake. Serve.

Home Sweet Home

Its been a while since we have been going back and forth to check up on our house in U.A.E. I must say, I wish I could exchange houses and bring the house from U.A.E to Kuwait. The walk into the neighbour rather made me truly feel like home. Although the weather in Sharjah is much hotter and suffocating, I honestly love my neighbourhood back there.Unlike in Kuwait, we always get these huge sandstorms where we're forced to be caged home.

                  Over the fence ..

Another new change for me and one that is causing me a lot of problems is this ...

I've suddenly stopped crocheting. I'm very disappointed at me and the fact that I haven't finished my scarf yet.

At the moment, I'm..
- anticipating for my new bathtub. Sooo excited!! Those pictures in the magazines I bought has made me have serious wanties for this summer.
-delighted to be wearing summer clothes! So one day it's PEACH and the next it's YELLOW. I would try wearing  other colours though. Except I quit wearing maxi skirts!
- so sad it's my worst time of year. The weather keeps getting worse out here. Trees are soaked with sand, the smell of dust is in the air, the evenings are filled with slack.
- secretly confessing that I have been missing my dad ...
- touched by your concern by my long blog absence. I am fine but needed (and still need I think) to have a break from blogging. I feel I have lost my blogging voice a bit. What can I say, I don't live an exciting life and do anything different really from year to year.

Which one would you choose?

A couple of days ago, I sat with my cousin and had a little chat about refurnishing my room. I change my room every once in awhile, quiet often, but haven't picked the colour yet. A few days later I did my job in researching for "Design Ideas for a Small Bedroom".

I got this..

isn't it gorgeous? ..

Well.. I then decided to paint my room peachy, rosy, plushy with gold, more into feminine colours .. romantic? luxurious?

The last time I painted my room purple it turned into a nursery room, so I could never imagine painting my room again. But, I won't start any of that now but just show you some wonderful ideas ..

This is one of my favourite ...

A little bit about Ellen Von Unwerth

Since I've been posting a lot of her photography, I thought you should know a bit about her. Let's start off with her name ! Ellen {Von} Unwerth. How does {Von} make you feel? Her name brings the naughtiness in me. Ellen is a German model born in 1954. She holds a special place in glamour/erotic photography as a photographer after 10 years of modelling. She says that her photography sessions involve bondage and creates scenarios in which women dominate men. She admires Bettie Page as a pinup icon and in which she includes some of her looks in her photography. Ellen Von Unwerth has all the trappings of a classic, highly stylized tale in the form of sexuality. I love her black and whites shoots, it just give everything an erotic feel.

Let me share some shoots of Keira Knightley by Ellen von Unwerth for {Vogue Italia January 2011}.

Monday Music: Lucie Silvas

Lucie Silvas has always been my all time favourite artist. She is a British singer born on 04/09/1980. Her music career is best known in UK. She released two albums - "Breathe In" in 2004 and "The Same Side" in 2006. My favourite songs in her first album "Breathe In" includes, Last Man Standing, Forget Me Not, Nothing Else Matters, What You're Made Of and No Defence. According to her second album I haven't had the chance to listen it. There is something about Lucie that makes me want to listen to her music over and over again. Is it her sentimental voice that appeals me? or is it her lyrics that truly every word has its own meaning?. The simplicity of her playing the piano and just singing along with the melody has a sensitivity and emotion for a story to tell and I've been touched by her lyricses. Enough with the talking, I have just one of the songs I just mentioned earlier for you to listen, it's called No Defence. I hope you like it.

Losing My Way

I have written this post a hundred times in my head in many different ways. I lay awake last night and tried to make sense of why I blog and what I should blog about in this small space of mine. How personal should one be? How honest? Do people really want to visit this space to read about how I drown into tears every now and then? But I'm afraid I very nearly did, so consequently I lost my blogging voice for months because I just couldn't pretend and witter on about how each picture speaks instead of me looking for words that describes who I am and what I like. I can't hide things you see. I wear my heart on my sleeve and maybe this blog isn't just about flowery things, pictures and my latest obsession of Ellen Von Unwerth .
Now I have got that off my chest and told you where I really was/am at - I can move on and babble about photography and things I possess.

Changing Pampers

My sister welcomes a baby boy 'Josef ' after a long await . I'm very excited to take the role of the aunt and be put in a hard pressure for this cause. It's funny the fact that a lot of people are asking me questions like, "Are you excited to be an aunt ?" "I think u  know nothing about babies", "What do you feel ?"
What do I feel ??!! and how dare you say I dont know how to take care of babies, as if ! :@
I'm very independent, I know what I'm doing and I love what I'm doing.
I just want to be a great aunt.
It's time for you to see the other side of me, a conservative person :P
Wish me luck and I'll try to keep posting :)
